This is the fourth of a series of blogs on education. The first three are:

4. WHY ARE THERE SO FEW MALE STUDENTS AT AMERICAN COLLEGES?
Are we men all as bright as Homer Simpson?
Judging by the statistics on the percentage of men attending American colleges, perhaps women are as bright as Lisa Simpson and we're as bright as Homer Simpson.
Roughly 41 percent of the students at American colleges are men. As the below Census Bureau chart shows, men used to dominate the college student population, but women became a majority in the 1980s and have been extending their lead ever since. http://cnsnews.com/sites/default/files/documents/DEGREES%20EARNED%20BY%20LEVEL%20AND%20SEX.pdf
Women's domination is so complete that only at public colleges in Utah and private colleges in Wyoming, West Virginia and Vermont do men have a majority, according to the below article. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ccap/2012/02/16/the-male-female-ratio-in-college/
Why do men do so poorly? Academics have been studying the issue for decades. The below story basically says women study more, are better behaved, and more mature. Other studies go into detail about academic performance, but I won't post those test results here just to save us from embarrassment. http://www.nber.org/digest/jan07/w12139.html
