Where are Good Locations for a Hidden Camera in the Home? |

There are plenty of reasons why you may wish to install a hidden camera (or more) around your home. Perhaps you are just looking for an additional security precaution in case you are unlucky enough to be burgled. Or you may have suspicions of what a spouse or other family member gets up to when you are away from home. Whatever the reason, one essential aspect of using spy equipment is to make sure it will not be detected! Could there be anything worse than a spouse - who turns out to be innocent of your suspicions - discovering that you have been secretly recording them? Fortunately, the world of spy cameras and hidden 'nanny' cams has advanced enormously in recent years. However, no matter how good an object hiding a camera may look, you still need to take care when positioning them to record effectively. Look for spy cameras that can be operated via wifi and record at the same time (most good ones offer this nowadays). Choose those that are disguised in a suitable style appropriate to which room you are planning on placing them. So without for ado, let's take a look at some great locations to install hidden cameras in the home. There are two key locations.
1) The BedroomPerhaps it's no surprise that those who suspect their partner of infidelity tend to place their spy camera in the bedroom. Rather conveniently, most bedrooms tend to feature similar items of furniture so these ought to apply in most cases. Just be sure that the camera that you have chosen is going to be able to catch a good angle that, pretty obviously, focuses on the bed. * Mirrors are an excellent choice and you can even find some 2-way examples which come with a built-in spy cam. If you do not already have one, then surely a new mirror is an easy to explain addition. Or one that you already own may develop an 'accidental' crack (just be sure it isn't valuable!). * Plenty of people like to keep a plant or two in the bedroom. These can provide fantastic opportunities for hiding a very small camera, perhaps on a high shelf to provide a decently wide angle. Just remember that they will grow so you may need to check the leaves/flowers at regular intervals, especially if your surveillance is a longer-term project. Spycams can also be built into decorative pots. * Curtain rods are another good option that allows for potentially perfect coverage. Be sure to keep them towards the end of the rod as this will allow for less friction and consequently reduce the risk of your device being knocked out of place. Size is obviously the issue here, so look for as small an option as you can find. * Bedside clocks are one of the most common - and best - options for bedroom surveillance. Once again, you may need to justify the replacement of an existing model by simulating an 'accident'. Often these devices will run directly off the power of the clock, with the camera itself not supposed to ever be removed. Naturally, these will come under the wifi spycam/nanny cam range hosted by most suppliers. The best models will also offer a live stream straight to your smartphone.
2) The Living RoomThis is likely the overall easiest place to install any kind of surveillance equipment and probably overall the most useful. While the same spousal infidelity can still likely be addressed here, perhaps you suspect that a family member is hosting unwanted/authorized guests, or merely you wish to add an unobtrusive extra layer of security to protect your property from theft. * TV/Digital equipment is perhaps the easiest place to secrete a spycam. Small models can easily be mixed up in cables and even underneath the actual items. DVD cases are an outstanding option, especially when using a title that is towards the bottom of the pile and unlikely to ever be opened by anyone else. All it takes is a pinhole to allow a field of vision the camera and you're set. * Bookcases/shelves are often used as much for decorative as they are recreation purposes. Most people will have cases of books that they barely ever touch, and all those little gaps and crannies provide excellent locations for your camera. There are plenty of options for spycams shaped like books that can easily be added to your collection with very little chance of anyone noticing. * Pictures are also very good places to install a device. As they tend to be dotted around various walls they also provide a degree of extra flexibility when choosing where to place them. Try and opt for ones that have slightly older frames so a small camera can be comfortably slid into a corner without being noticed. These may also allow for the opportunity of seeing further through a doorway or include a window or two, making them great if home security is your objective too.
Other Rooms & OutsideThe kitchen can be a good place if you can be certain that your device is not going to be moved or detected. Clocks, mugs, decorations, even lampshades are just a few options here. Study rooms that tend to contain PC equipment are also often very personal places, so not many unauthorized intruders are going to suspect that baseball/model/globe hides a spy camera for instance. As for external surveillance - say for instance you want to keep a closer eye on potential intruders or people taking liberties with your mailbox, scoping out your property or even just when household members come and go can be a little trickier to place. This isn't because of the devices themselves, but more because of lighting, foliage and even just birds disrupting its placement. Also, factor in that you'll likely be looking at installing this and leaving it in place for a long time, so battery life is important. It may be wise to look for models that include motion detecting tech to conserve power, and of course night vision/ infrared.
Final ThoughtsWhere you decide to place your spycam throughout the home is really limited only by your own imagination. Every room is going to be furnished differently, so the key decision is whether to install a dedicated camera yourself or if it would be easier to buy an already camouflaged spycam. The latter must obviously be as unobtrusive as possible and placed somewhere that is rarely interacted with by anyone in the household. The latter needs to become part of the furniture without anyone batting an eye. Consider your options carefully when deciding where the best places are, and of course, remember to keep them away from private places (bathrooms, etc). A well-placed spycam is one that is located somewhere within your remit to do so.
